John was appointed to the Murray Regional Tourism Board as a skills-based director in October 2019.

He brings over 25 years experience as an executive in the Victorian Government Economic Development Department, working across a number of industry sectors, particularly the visitor economy and regional economic development.

For ten years, John was the Director Strategy, Policy and Corporate Services in Tourism Victoria. He played a lead role in the development and release of Victoria’s first ten-year tourism strategy, the long term China Tourism Strategy, the Victorian Regional Tourism Action Plan, the Victorian Visitor Economy Review and the 2030 Victorian Tourism Strategy.

He has been responsible for the Victorian Government’s governance oversight of many entities including the Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Visit Victoria and the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. He was a director and Deputy Chair of the Tourism Victoria Board.

John brings skills in policy making, strategic planning, economic research, government relations and corporate governance. 

He has a MA (Economics), BA Hons (Economics and Political Science) and is a graduate and member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

John played a critical role in the formation of several Regional Tourism Boards and has been an observer on the Murray Regional Tourism Board since its formation; therefore, he is very familiar with the assets and opportunities in the Murray region.
