A message from our Chair regarding the bushfires

Wendy Greiner

The Board and team at Murray Regional Tourism are saddened by the devastating bushfires that are severely impacting lives, communities, wildlife and livelihoods across Australia and our thoughts are with those affected.

We also acknowledge the outstanding efforts of our emergency services teams and volunteers working so tirelessly to keep us all safe and well informed.

In the Murray, the impacts are currently contained to the eastern part of the region as a bushfire continues in the Woomargama National Park, relief centres are operating in Albury and Wodonga and some nearby destinations are experiencing smoke haze.

Tourism operators in affected areas are encouraged to contact guests with upcoming bookings to ensure they are provided with accurate information.

Visitors should seek the latest information on conditions by visiting the VicEmergency website emergency.vic.gov.au and the New South Wales Rural Fire Service website rfs.nsw.gov.au/fire-information/fires-near-me which have up-to-date alerts and warnings on active bushfires in each state.

We are working closely with our local government partners in New South Wales and Victoria and a range of agencies in both states to ensure the Murray region’s tourism industry is well supported into the future, it retains its strong visitor numbers and cross border issues and impacts are minimised.

A key component of our response plan is to collect and collate information on how the bushfires are impacting tourism businesses right across the region. This information will shape our current and future discussions with State and Federal governments as we continue to reinforce the importance of the visitor economy and ensure our region is well supported in the recovery efforts.

If you require support or would like to raise any issues, please contact us on 03 5480 7110 or email [email protected]
